Commercial Microbiology® Limited had its roots in 1985 with a company called Media Supplies.
This company was started by Stephen Maxwell, with one member of staff, and initially
concentrated on manufacturing and supplying test kits for bacterial monitoring in oilfield systems.
In 1988 the services had expanded significantly to include consultancy, offshore personnel and
laboratory services, in addition to bacterial test kits, and it was felt appropriate at this time to change
the name to Oilfield Microbiology Limited. By 1995, Oilfield Microbiology employed 12 staff and was
servicing projects in the UK, Norway, the Middle East and Australasia. In order to add health and
hygiene services to its growing product base, a sister company, Grampian Microbiology Limited
was formed at this time. Grampian Microbiology was a terrific success, growing quickly to become
the dominant food testing microbiology laboratory in the North East of Scotland. By 1998, both
companies had grown sufficiently, that it was totally logical to join forces to create what is known
today as Commercial Microbiology®.
Operating from headquarters in Aberdeen and a branch facility in
Houston Texas, Commercial Microbiology® employs over
37 staff and is active in over 20 countries providing microbiological
services and support in to a range of energy, food, pharmaceutical
and environmental companies.
